The best way to give curling a try is through our Learn to Curl classes. No prior experience is required and these classes are open to the public (club membership is not required). Advance registration through our website is highly encouraged to guarantee a spot, but walk-ins are welcome too if there is space available. No refunds will be given except for extenuating circumstances. All curling equipment (brooms, stones, sliders, grippers, and stabilizers) will be provided to attendees and is covered in the class cost. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Each class is limited to 24 participants.
A learn to curl class takes approximately 2 hours and participants are encouraged to arrive 10 minutes prior to the designated class start time. Volunteer instructors will spend about 20 minutes teaching the history, rules, techniques, and strategy of the game in our warm lounge. Then the group will move out to the ice rink for the remainder of the time to practice throwing stones, sweeping technique, and ultimately play a condensed game.
Participants must bring a clean pair of soft-soled shoes or tennis shoes. Dress shoes, heels, cleats, and boots with metal buckles will not be allowed on the ice. We will have a wash sink available at the club if further shoe cleaning is necessary prior to going on the ice. The ice rink area will be approximately 24-38 degrees Fahrenheit. Participants are encouraged to wear warm, flexible clothing. Sweat pants, long-sleeve shirt and/or jacket, hat, and gloves are recommended. Jeans are not recommended as they are not flexible and the rivets can damage the ice.
